5 DAY CONGO MOUNTAIN GORILLA TREK AND MT NYIRAGONGO HIKE (MIKENO MIST)
The 5 day Congo mountain gorilla trek and Mt nyiragongo hike (Mikeno Mist )package includes a three night stay in Virunga: two nights in Kibumba Tented Camp with a gorilla trek and one night stay on Mt Nyiragongo volcano hike.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL AT KIGALI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AND TRANSFER TO GISENYI.
Upon arrival you will be welcomed by our expert driver guide, who will brief you about the tour before you are transferred to Gisenyi for a rest as you prepare for you next day for mt Nyiragongo trek.
DAY 2: TRANSFER TO RUMANGABO SECTOR VIA GOMA
Your driver guide will meet you at your hotel reception and transfer you to the grande barriere. Upon arrival at Grande Barriere border he will help you with the visa process before crossing at 11:30am and ensure check-in with Virunga tourism office by 13:00. The tourism office is conveniently located in the Grande Barriere border post building, opposite passport control.
Guests will receive gorilla and volcano trek permits at check-in which must be presented at the start of each trek. Once check-in is complete, visitors will be transported to Kibumba for dinner and over Night stay
DAY 3: UN FORGETABLE RARE MOUNTAIN GORILLA TREK
After an early breakfast at Kibumba Tented Camp, trekkers will head down the hill to meet their Ranger guides and have a briefing before the gorilla trek.Treks usually require 1-2.5 hours of hiking each way, depending on location of the gorilla group being trekked and the difficulty of the terrain.
After spending the allotted hour with the gorilla family group, trekkers will make their way back to camp, enjoy a late lunch and have the rest of the day at leisure, including time for nature walks and bird watching around the Lodge.
DAY 4: EXCLUSIVE MT NYIRAGONGO HIKE
After breakfast at Kibumba, guests will be transported to the Kibati Ranger Post at 8:15am, departure point for the Nyiragongo volcano trek. On arrival to Kibati, guests will receive a briefing and will have the opportunity to hire porters.
The climb up the volcano will take around four to six hours and trekkers will have dinner and overnight on the summit shelters with spectacular views.
DAY 5: DESEND AND TRANSFER TO KIGALI.
In the early morning, guests will leave the crater rim and start the descent back to Kibati. Average descent time is four hours. Once at the bottom, guests will be transported back to Goma with drop-off at the Grande Barriere where you will meet your Guide waiting for your and take you for hot lunch around before a 3 hours scenic drive to Kigali for your flight back home or overnight in Kigali.
Included in this package: 2 nights accommodation at Kibumba Tented Camp, gorilla trek permit, one night stay on Nyiragongo shelter, volcano trek permit, Nyiragongo backpack, all transport to, from and within the Park once in country.
